North Antrim Under 17 Hurling Final
Na Padraig 5.19 Glenariff/Glenravel 5.8
At half time in this highly entertaining contest at Healy Park, Loughgiel no one would have expected the second half turnaround, with the Glensmen leading 3.5 to 2.7 at this stage.
The glens lads were first out "of the blocks” and were 1.1 ahead after only four minutes, courtesy of a goal from Oisin Gillan and Ciaran McCann point. But Naomh Padraig led by their talisman Calum Cane settled into the game, and two long range efforts from Cane were deflected past Ciaran McToal by Ryan Watson and further points from Cane and Callum Magee left them four clear on the 15th minute mark.
However, this high scoring contest took another turn with McCann and Gillan adding further goals to leave a half time score 3.5 to 2.7 in favour of the Glensmen.
Naomh Padraig started the second half on the "front foot” and goals from Liam and Callum Magee left the glens lads in bother against a stiff breeze. With Cane dominating the midfield Naomh Padraig started picking off some fine points. Another Oisin Gillan goal reduced the arrears briefly until Cane put it beyond doubt with a goal, to give him a personal tally of 1.11.
A late McCann goal came too late to stop the minor b championship heading to the Naomh Padraig camp to give them their first ever minor success.
