Late points from Niall Rodgers and Blain Mitchell (2) gave Glenarm victory over luckless Cloney Gaels in Saturday’s North Antrim Under 15 B championship final in Cushendun. A goal from Sean McPeake midway through the second half had given Cloney the lead, but they could not raise another flag in the remaining fifteen minutes and slowly but surely Glenarm edged their way back. Niall Rodgers brought them level before two injury time points from Blain Mitchell sealed the win.
Cloney started the game
strongly with points from Conal Boyd and Rory O’Kane, but a goal from play by
corner forward Oisin Daly put Glenarm ahead and when Mitchell added a point
they were 1-1 to 0-2 ahead. Points from Conor Boyd frees in the 9thand 12thminutes
put Cloney back in front and a goal from full forward Cillian Scullion swung
the advantage in Cloney’s favour. A somewhat fortunate Thomas Kelly goal
brought Glenram back level and it was score fro score for the remainder of the
opening half, at the end of which the sides were level on 2-4 to 1-7.
Cloney appeared to be gaining the upper hand when Scullion added two points early in the second half but Niall Rodgers came back with a points. Cloney’s hopes received a bad blow when one of their players received a red card, but when corner forward Sean McPeake grabbed a goal midway through the half it looked like they were in a strong position. However Glenarm slowly but surely worked their way back into the game and a late scoring burst gave them the win.
