North Antrim U12 Airborne Hurling League Finals 2016
6th March 2016

Today seen the North Antrim U12 Airborne League Finals being ran off in the Dunloy Sports Academy.  This is a very unique competition which requires you be at your very best and tuned in for an entire match, due to the speed, skill needed and no stoppage rules, just rebounds and constant play.  Scoring for this competition in North Antrim is 1 point for a goal, 2 points for a 'point' and 2 points for a catch (only catches from a struck pass count - hand passes or 'pop passes' do not count).

Like the Indoor Leagues this competition is proving very popular and ran over a period of a few weeks where 20 teams battled it out for a chance to secure their place in the U12 Airborne Finals today in indoor 4G facilities namely Dunloy Sports Academy and Tir na nOg Randalstown.

Looking through to the spectator area you could see a big turnout of players, parents and supporters on the day which really did add to the atmosphere.  From the throw in all the Division finals it was clear this was final day.  The young talented players where going in hard and fast for every ball at pace and making use of the 2 point catches to aid boost their team scores.  A lot of the top coaches in Ireland maintain indoor airborne is where you learn your skill and to play at fast pace.  When you watched the performances from the teams today it’s hard to argue.

North Antrim would like to thank Dunloy Sports Academy and Tir na nOg Randalstown for the availability of their facilities for this competition.  Without these type of indoor halls this competition simply would not happen and it’s for this reason why we can only accept a certain number of entries.

A special thanks goes to our Youth Development Officer Declan Heggarty for referring all the finals along with this score keeping assistants Paul McSparron, Roisin O'Boyle and his time keeper Martin Bellew keeping him in check.  North Antrim would also like to thank all the teams and players who took part in the competition this year making it such a success.

The results of the finals where are follows:

Division 3 Winners – All Saints, Ballymena
Division 2 Winners – Naomh Padraig
Division 1 Winners – Loughgiel Shamrocks
