This was the first Minor game for the newly formed, independent team Naomh Padraig, which consists of players from Carey, Armoy & Cushendun.
They played Ruairi Og in the first round of the Darragh Cup with Ruairi Og winning on a score line of (0-20) to (2-07) but it was a fine team performance from Naomh Padraig and one which they can build on for the future.
Both teams had impressive hurlers on show and the match was nip and tuck until the last 15 minutes when some great Ruairi Og team play resulted in some fine points being picked off. It was a hard, tough but fair exciting game, with Naomh Padraig edging in front of at the start of the second half, but Ruairi Og had a great response and ran out worthy winners in the end.
The game was a great advert for the young hurling talent that we have in North Antrim and it was a fitting tribute as Wednesday was John Darragh's anniversary.
