McCaughan Cup Final – North Antrim Junior Hurling
Cushendun Emmet’s 6-20 Ballycastle McQuillan’s 6-06
A storming second half by Cushendun saw them claim the McCaughan Cup at the Brustin Braes, Larne on Tuesday evening.
There was little to choose between the sides in an evenly contested first half and it took and injury time goal from Cushendun’s James Morgan to get his team in front.
Colm McKeegan got the Emmet’s opening goal in the sixth minute, but Callum Campbell got one back for Ballycastle on ten. Criostai McAuley got his team’s second goal five minutes from half time, but Mickey Dunne replied for Cushendun to give them a good lead. Oisin Donnelly and Gavin McToal hit back with goals for the Town, but Morgan struck late to give his team a 1-9 to 4-4 lead at the break.
After the change of ends Cushendun pulled away and ended up dominating the second half. Colm McKeegan completed his hat trick of goals with two more in the second period and Mickey Dunne got a second, but the points flowed as well. Fintan McQuillan ended up with nine to his name, six of them from frees, while Callum Kilgore got two.
Ballycastle kept plugging away and got two more goals themselves, but they could not match the scoring power of the Emmet’s who went on to win by 14 in the end.
