The North Antrim launch of the 1916 Antrim GAA Commemorative jersey took place last Sunday in Carey Hall. The jersey launch was part of Antrim GAA Boards programme of events to mark the centenary of The Easter Rising. The specially commissioned jersey is based on the county jersey worn by Antrim in 1916 and features images of Roger Casement .
Jimmy Gaston, Oifigeach Cultúrtha, spoke at the launch on the theme of Casements life and important role in the Rising. Casement is closely associated with the Carey district and his legacy is well respected throughout Antrim, not least his pivotal role in the formation of Gaelic games in North Antrim.
The jersey is available online from O Neills and also available in usual sports outlets. The shirt is sure to become a valuable collectors item in times to come and a fitting memento of the role of the GAA in the 1916 Rising.
